When Change Finds You
People are complicated. We grow up with certain habits, personalities, and ways of thinking, and sometimes it feels like those traits are set in stone. But the truth is, people can change. Real change. Not just surface-level “I’ll try to do better,” but deep, meaningful growth that surprises everyone, including themselves.
It makes me pause sometimes: is there an age, a stage, or a point in life when someone can no longer change? I don’t have the answer. Honestly, I’ve seen people get so set in their ways that change feels impossible. And yet, I’ve also witnessed miracles happen with God - moments where hearts and perspectives shift in ways you never imagined. It’s proof that with God, nothing is impossible. As Matthew 19:26 reminds us, “With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
Life has a way of challenging us, pushing us, and sometimes humbling us. When we allow ourselves to reflect, to learn, and even to fail, that’s when transformation begins. Change often comes quietly, through life’s challenges, lessons, and choices, and sometimes in ways we don’t expect.
Sometimes, examples from unexpected places make this idea even clearer. Watching a movie recently, I noticed something that really struck me: one character, who seemed selfish at first, ended up making the ultimate sacrifice. Another, who had spent a lifetime serving everyone else, finally allowed themselves to step into personal happiness. These examples reminded me that growth and change are always possible, even when we least expect it.
The bigger takeaway is simple: no one is fixed. People are constantly evolving, and growth doesn’t follow a timeline. Change can come from reflection, life experiences, or the courage to make difficult choices. And sometimes, the lessons we need appear in the most unexpected places - through stories, conversations, or moments that make us pause and really think.
So whether it’s someone you know or even yourself remember this: people are capable of remarkable transformation. It’s never too late to grow. And sometimes, the change that surprises you most is the one you’ve had inside you all along.
And finally, a gentle reminder of hope and encouragement: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” (Luke 1:37)
